Privacy Policy

What this website collects, what it does not, and what happens to anything you send us.

The short version

Reading this site is anonymous.

If you only read this website, we do not learn who you are. The site sets no cookies of its own on visitors who are not signed in, runs no advertising or social media trackers, and does not sell or share information about you with anyone. There is no Google Analytics, no advertising pixel, and no profile built about you. We do count how many people read which pages, using a service that does that without cookies and without following you anywhere, described below.

The one place we receive information from you is the contact form, and only because you typed it there.

Reading the site

What our host records automatically.

Like every website, this one is delivered by a web server that keeps standard access logs. Those logs record the internet address the request came from, the page requested, the date and time, and the browser identification your software sends. Our hosting provider keeps those logs for its own security and operations, and they are not used to identify individual readers or combined with anything else.

We use Pirsch Analytics to count visits and see which pages are read. Pirsch sets no cookies. Instead of storing an identifier on your device, it derives a temporary one by combining your internet address, your browser identification, the date, and a secret value unique to this website, and then discarding the inputs. Your internet address is not stored, in whole or in part. Because the date is part of that calculation and the secret value differs from site to site, the same reader cannot be recognized after twenty-four hours and cannot be followed onto any other website. Pirsch records an approximate location at country and city level, worked out on the server rather than by asking your device. Pirsch is operated by Emvi Software GmbH in Germany and holds the data on servers there, acting on our instructions and not for its own purposes.

The contact form

What you send goes to email, not into this website.

When you complete the contact form, the information you enter is sent to the firm by email. It is not stored in this website’s database. There is no archive of submissions on the site to be searched, exported, or breached.

The form asks only for what a first conversation needs. The form accepts no file attachments, so there is no way to upload a document to us through this site.

Before the form will send, it runs a bot check supplied by Cloudflare, called Turnstile. That check tells us whether a submission is likely to be automated. It processes technical signals from your browser to make that decision. We receive its result, not a report about you.

Email we receive is retained in the firm’s ordinary email system under the firm’s ordinary practices. If your inquiry does not become a matter, we are not obliged to keep it, and we may delete it.

Before you write to us

Do not send anything confidential yet.

Using the contact form does not make you a client, and it does not make what you send privileged. Until the firm has run a conflicts check and agreed in writing to represent you, anything you send may not be protected and could in some circumstances have to be disclosed.

Please keep a first message short and general — enough to tell us the nature of the matter and who is involved, so we can check for conflicts. Save the details until we have confirmed that we can act for you. This mirrors the position set out in our Attorney Advertising, Legal Notices & Disclaimers.

Email is not a secure medium. We take reasonable care with it, but we cannot guarantee that a message will not be intercepted in transit.

Others involved

The services that make the site work.

A small number of service providers necessarily handle information in the course of running this website: the company that hosts the site and its servers, Cloudflare, which provides the bot check described above, and the service that delivers our outgoing email. Each of them acts to operate the site and communications, not to market to you.

This site also links to other organizations’ websites, including regulators and courts. Once you follow a link, you are on someone else’s site under their privacy practices, not ours.

Technology in the firm’s work

How this fits with our use of automated tools.

Separately from this website, the firm may use artificial intelligence and other technology in its internal work, as described in our Attorney Advertising, Legal Notices & Disclaimers. That notice governs the firm’s practice. This policy governs the website.

Your choices

Asking us what we hold, and asking us to delete it.

Because this site stores nothing about you, there is generally nothing here to access or delete. If you have written to the firm and want to know what we hold as a result, or want it deleted, write to us and say so. Where the law gives you a right to make that request — California residents among others — we will honor it, subject to the professional and record-keeping obligations that apply to a law firm.

This site is intended for adults conducting business. It is not directed to children, and we do not knowingly collect information from them.

Changes

If this policy changes.

We may update this policy as the site changes. The version published here is the current one, and it applies from the date it appears. If a change is significant, we will say so on this page rather than relying on you to notice.

Questions about this policy should go through our contact page. See also our Terms of Use.
